[Hugo] How to add footnote marker in the text

Method

To add annotation, do the following¹.

Text [^1]

[^1]: footnote

The number of annotation has nothing to do, it takes the liberty of counting the number of annotations. So, [^a] is also fine.

But, be careful to forget : of [^1]:, because it is not recognized as an annotation.
